Why GCS | The Science and Supply Case for Global Craft Matcha

Why GCS | The Science and Supply Case for Global Craft Matcha

Matcha's global demand has consistently outpaced supply from Japan, where growing regions are limited and harvests are seasonal. GCS Matcha was developed specifically to address this gap, bringing Japanese processing expertise to Global selected cultivation zones. Using Jin Xuan and Four Seasons Oolong cultivars, both shade-grown and stone-milled under Japanese technical supervision, GCS Matcha produces matcha with a distinct creamy, umami-forward profile and measurable functional credentials that stand up to commercial-grade sourcing requirements.

GCS Matcha is offered in two grades to match your formulation needs. The Premium Grade is hand-picked from first flush leaves with up to 18 days of shading, delivering deep bright green color, silky mouthfeel and low astringency, suited for specialty beverages, premium RTD formats and retail products. The Latte Grade is harvested from more mature leaves with up to 14 days of shading, using hand-picking during the dry season and mechanical harvesting during the rainy season to ensure consistent supply year-round, producing a bolder, full-bodied flavor profile, making it particularly well-suited for functional beverage formulation, large-scale F&B programs and nutraceutical blending.

Exceptionally High L-Theanine for Functional Positioning

Third-party lab testing confirms L-Theanine content of 2,524 mg/kg in the Premium Grade and 6,450 mg/kg in the Latte Grade. L-Theanine, the amino acid associated with calm focus and stress reduction, is a primary functional driver for matcha in the wellness and nutraceutical space. These levels support strong on-pack functional claims for brands formulating in the cognitive wellness, stress support, and energy-without-jitters categories.

Clean Label, Fully Tested, Export-Ready Compliance

Every batch undergoes comprehensive third-party safety testing covering 20 pesticide residues, heavy metals including lead, arsenic, mercury, and cadmium, full microbiological panel, and nutritional composition verified to US FDA 21CFR Part 101 standards. Manufacturing is certified under ISO 22000:2018, HACCP, and US FDA Registration.

Scalable Supply Backed by Japanese Technical Standards

Unlike Japan-origin matcha where supply constraints are structural and increasingly difficult to plan around, GCS matcha is produced in selected favorable Global cultivation zones under Japanese processing protocols with year-round production capacity. Both grades are available in 100g, 250g, 500g, and 1kg standard formats with custom packaging and private label options, giving B2B buyers the flexibility to scale without compromising on quality consistency or documentation standards.
